With only chords to work with, I can't do this if I don't know the tune. It simulates a real-sounding band that can accompany you as you practice. If you're pressed for time and creating a chart, at the very least include a cue of the first two or so measures. This guy I was working with counted off a tune, and although the melody starts in the pickup measure, he started on beat one. I didn't know the tune, so I didn't know where the melody comes in. Here are the two main problems that occurred: I'm not gonna say it's inherently a bad resource-for the money, it's incredible-but if you're building a book for musicians to read from on the gig, either use charts from a fake book that include the melody or, if you're a singer and the book is in a different key than the one you sing it (and you don't have the music/notation chops to create a chart in your key), pay a musician to make a chart for you. Over the past couple weeks, I did three gigs with singers whose books were chock full of printouts from iReal Pro.
